Thrifty Find – Handmade 70s Scarf Top

May 21, 2013

One of my favorite thrift stores in the city is Vice Versa Vintage. They carry second quality vintage which means it’s prime for easy repairs. I bought this really interesting top in July of last year.

I snagged this piece for $5, figuring it would be nice for when I was busking. It had a couple small stains that easily washed out. I knew all along that it was from the 70s and was handmade. However, I wasn’t sure until this past week…

From the Vintage Pattern Wiki since I'm too lazy to track my pattern down and scan it.

Yep! Simplicity 7569. I now own the pattern this shirt was made from! Although I believe the one size for the one I have is Medium as opposed to the size Large pattern I own, it still fits me fine (I, as many, often fit into other sizes). This is very mainstream-70s-post-hippie-movement. I’d say the fit is okay and looks better tucked in. It can also be a little awkward to wear at first. The end result, though, is very funky!
